When we start looking for an attorney the situation is
usually desperate. At that time, finding a good and
expert attorney seems a daunting task. But these are the
very questions to which finding an answer does not seem
too easy. What in fact distinguishes a good lawyer from a
bad one? If you are still unable to find a solution, the
following suggestions from us would give you some idea.
Look out for these qualities in a lawyer before you use
his or her services for your case.

When you are in a middle of a divorce case, for
instance, it is very important for you to find an
excellent lawyer because your whole life is at stake,
which includes your money, your house and your children
besides many other things. Thus, you would want someone
you can trust. This is a painful and hard moment of
your life, and you would want your attorney to be your
guide. You must look for a person you can be
comfortable with because there is no way to predict how
long you may have to work together; a divorce case can
go on for many years.

If any of your friends had gone through a divorce case,
ask him or her. Friends are a valuable source of fair
advice and would surely recommend you a trustworthy and
good lawyer. You could interview the lawyer recommended
by your friend. You could even ask attorneys you have
worked with in other legal matters for a recommendation
as usually attorneys know each other quite well even if
their area of specialization is different.

Whosoever recommends you an attorney, make sure yourself
by checking his or her credentials, reputation and IDs.
Also check his or her qualifications and whether the
person is Board Certified in that state. The idea is not
to find the cheapest lawyer, but the one best suited for
the job and who will deliver positive result. Your
interests should take precedence over all things as far
as your lawyer is concerned.

The lawyers of your ex and yourself should be different.
Even when the intentions are good all around, conflict of
interest may arise besides some uncomfortable situations.
It is, however, not mandatory for both the parties to
have lawyers and your ex may represent himself or herself
if desired. The crux of the matter is that your lawyer
cannot advise your spouse in a divorce proceeding.

Even though if your budget is limited and you dont have
too much money for hiring an attorney, you will always
find a good one who is available. The first place where
you can find one if you cannot come up with the money for
the costs of having a private lawyer, is the Public Office
of your town or city and the local lawyers association or
similar offices.

Patience is the key when you are looking for a lawyer to
render his or her service. Spend a good amount of time in
the search and avoid taking any hasty decision if you are
unsure.
